Culture Pass soon available in St. Martin and St. Barts

MARIGOT: Last Friday, November 18, the seaside bookstore in Marigot welcomed officials for the long-awaited launch of the Culture Pass for young people.

Born of the desire to make available to young people a new device promoting access to culture and launched in 2019 by the French government, the Culture Pass allows young people aged 15 to 18 to benefit from a sum to be spent on the cultural offer of St. Martin and France: €20 for 15 years old, €30 for 16 and 17 years old, €300 for 18 years old, to be used according to one’s desires among the catalog of offers proposed on the application to be downloaded.

Shows, concerts, theater, singing, drawing lessons, musical instruments, books, and comics, young people will go towards the art that inspires them. The census of the offers is still in progress. A specific amount of money will also be allocated to schools from the 4th to the 12th grade to access cultural activities. The person in charge of the mission will meet with the different departments next January.

At the instigation of the delegated prefect Vincent Berton, accompanied for the occasion by his secretary general Fabien Sésé, the vice-rector Harry Christophe, the director of Cultural Affairs of Guadeloupe François Derudder, the territorial councilor Marc-Gérald Menard and Geneviève and Patrick Videlier, managers of the bookstore, the president of the Pass Culture, Sébastien Cavalier, emphasized the importance of such a device to both counter the sometimes inaccessible cost of the cultural offer and strengthen its promotion on the territories of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy.

As a tool for understanding, tolerance, and imagination, culture guides young people in their development, while seeing the world through the eyes of others. It is an essential element of any modern society. So the wait will not be long, the deployment of the Culture Pass on Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy will take place in the next few weeks.
