Twelve young people from St. Martin for the Boat Show in Martinique

MARIGOT: On May 18, eight high school students in a vocational baccalaureate in nautical maintenance and four young people from the Centre Symphorien d’Insertion (CSI) in Quartier d’Orléans will fly to Martinique to participate in the second edition of the Boat Show, the great meeting of Caribbean nautical professionals which will be held from May 19 to 22, 2022.

The Nautical Club, organizer of the event, gathered these young people, their parents, the partners of the project whose budget is €15,000, the teaching staff and the press in the restaurant of the Lycée Professionnel Daniella Jeffry at the beginning of the week in order to present the program of this marvellous opportunity to discover the professions of the nautical industry, to meet the professionals of the trade but also to visit the island of Martinique. Each of the partners took the floor thanking and congratulating each other for having managed in record time to mount such an operation dedicated to young people and their future. Angèle Dormoy, president of the CCISM, confided to the assembly that she was somewhat skeptical that the CCISM was solicited.

Considering at first sight the Boat Show as an event only reserved for the rich, the president of the CCISM then realized the advantages that would be offered to the young people to participate in an event of this scale, that it is to open with the other or to be motivated to create its own company related to the nautical industry. The condition sine qua none of Angèle Dormoy before fully associating herself with the project initiated by Bülent Gülay, president of the Nautical Club, was to integrate young people from St. Martin, also from the neighborhoods. Consequently, twelve young people were selected according to criteria of merit, voluntarism and attendance. Eight from the Lycée Professionnel Daniella Jeffry: Derwin Hunt, Christopher Bredy, Nélantonio Guzman, Kerby Jean-Baptiste, AjaniTearr, Ronaldo Benjamin, Raylin Gomez, Julio Ramirez, and four young people from the CSI: Adrian Garcia, Roberto Warner, MerlandoBeausol-Norville and only female representative, Raquel Eloy-Polo.

In addition to the CCISM, the Regional Academic Delegation for Youth, Commitment and Sports (DRAJES), represented by Marc Fabre, the Lion’s Club Oualichi and of course, the Lycée Professionnel Daniella Jeffry and the Centre Symphorien d’Insertion (Symphorian Center for Integration), will also participate. The twelve young people will leave on Wednesday, May 18 with four chaperones, including Nika Shillingford, coordinator of the Nautical Club, and Marie-Paule Rousseau of the CSI, in the direction of Martinique. The program is full of visits to the Boat Show, the discovery of the island of flowers with the Habitation Clément, the marina and the shipyard of Le Marin but also an initiation to rowing and kayaking in the mangrove in Robert. After this unique experience, the young people will return to Saint Martin on May 22.
