Beautiful celebration of Art en Fête in Quartier d’Orléans

QUARTIER D’ORLÉANS:  Last Monday, the seventh edition of Art en Fête was launched at the Roche Gravée de Moho College in Quartier d’Orléans. A morning dedicated to the show with songs, dances and theater, all performed by several students from kindergarten to senior high school.

Art en Fête, which runs until May 20, is part of the D’PASS 2020-2023 academic project, which aims to develop artistic and cultural education. The theme of the 2022 edition is KARIBHEART, a word that values the Caribbean, heart/love and art. On Monday, May 2, the principal of Roche Gravée de Moho high school spoke before the show, praising this educational action and thanking all the participants. Michel Sanz, vice-rector, underlined the importance of art in the school curriculum, as artistic disciplines greatly contribute to the development of children and to better results.

The budding artists came from the Siméonne Trott and Jean Anselme nursery schools, the Marie-Antoinette Richards School, the Clair Saint-Maximin Elementary School, the Soualiga Middle School and, of course, the Quartier d’Orléans Middle School, which hosted the event.

The audience, composed of teams from the different schools, enjoyed the students’ performances. The show began with the national and local anthems, brilliantly interpreted by the small and medium sections of the nursery school Siméonne-Trott, which then honored the Caribbean folk dance “La ri Zabim”. Other Caribbean dances, sketches and typical songs (choucoune, La chica de Cuba, Oh my island in the sun, van lévé, Oye como va) followed one another showing the great talent of all the children.

A large exhibition was also presented in the school premises, both in the auditorium and in the hall. The works presented are the product of all the students who participated in the Karibheart project. They can be seen until May 10 at Quartier d’Orléans College. The exhibition will then move to the Mont des Accords College in Concordia from May 12 to 20.

On the music side, the choirs of the schools and colleges will give a concert on Tuesday, May 10 at 5:00 pm in the refectory of the Soualiga college at the Cité Scolaire Robert Weinum. 200 places are available, contact the school management to reserve.

And finally, the theater will be at the festival thanks to the students of the Soualiga college. The stage of the Chapelle theater will be taken by storm by the little artists with a musical comedy around the Caribbean on Friday, May 6 at 7pm, a theatrical performance of “Don Juan” in three languages on Saturday, May 7 at 7pm and to close this artistic weekend of Art en Fête, a concert and choreography of the CHAM class of 6th grade on Sunday, May 8 at 6pm. Reservations should be made directly with the college.
