BEL AIR: Sint Maarten will be one of four locations in the world to host the 2022 International Senior Padel Tournament. The other selected destinations were Ecuador, Chile and El Salvador.
Last month, after participating in the International Padel Federation Senior World Championship in Las Vegas, Roque Roasio (founder of the International Senior Tour) and Jorge Roldan who were semi-finalists (representing Argentina) in the event visited the facilities of the SXM Padel Club in Bel Air.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from December 1 to 4. Players from Europe and the Americas will participate. “We hope that, as in the history of the Heineken Regatta, this event will grow from year to year, making Sint Maarten a place where tournament participants will look forward to closing the season,” says Ricardo Perez, one of the directors of the SXM Padel Club.
“It is an honor for us to have Mr. Roasio and Roldan in Sint Maarten sharing their knowledge and experiences with some of our players. Both have been involved in the Padel Tennis industry since its inception. They have trained many professionals who are currently participating in the World Padel Tour professional circuit such as Mr. Sanyo Gutierrez who is currently ranked number 6 in the world,” said Perez.
Padel Tennis, which started in Mexico, has grown to have more than 8 million players worldwide.
The ISPT was founded in 2018 by Roasio. In Europe 23 countries are part of this Senior Tour. Tournaments have been held in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, France, Sweden, Greece, Austria, Italy, Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. Tours are now expanding to the Americas.
SXM Padel Club since opening its doors has seen a constant flow of tourists and residents of all levels playing day and night 7 days a week.
