MARIGOT: Epidemiological indicators for both Saint-Martin and Saint Barthelemy confirm a strong deterioration of the sanitary situation. The 5th wave is here and now.
The latest health bulletin published by the Regional Health Agency reports 2,561 new cases recorded for the period from 3 to 9 January 2022 against 1,120 the previous week. The cumulative number of confirmed cases of coronavirus on the territory since the beginning of the sanitary crisis is 7 713.
It should be noted that since January 10, 805 new cases of Covid-19 have already been recorded in 3 days out of 3,156 tests performed, demonstrating that the dynamics of the past week are still alive.
Epidemiological indicators confirm an unprecedented situation on Saint-Martin
According to the SI-DEP ARS data, the incidence rate has risen sharply to 7,164.4/100,000 inhabitants, compared with 3,088.5/100,000 from 27 December 2021 to 2 January 2022.
The weekly positivity rate is also up sharply, with a rate of 27.8% compared to 18.0% the previous week.
As of January 12, 16 confirmed Covid-19 patients were hospitalized at the Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital and 2 at the De Bruyn Hospital in Saint-Barth. The hospital impact of the 5th wave is increasing. It should be noted that the staffing levels of both establishments are also affected by the new variant and that fewer caregivers can be mobilized at the bedside: the pressure on the hospital is therefore significant.
It should be noted that a Covid-19 positive patient died at home. Since the beginning of the crisis, 60 residents of Saint-Martin and 6 residents of Saint Barthelemy have died from Covid-19.
