PHILIPSBURG: In early December, a firefighter was sentenced by the Court of First Instance of Sint Maarten for threatening with a firearm, and for possession of an illegal firearm.
The firefighter threatened a person after a very drunken party and in his defense, stated in court that he did not remember the incident.
According to the court, his behavior may not only affect the way his profession is viewed, but may create a sense of fear and insecurity for the victim and the public.
The firefighter was sentenced to 24 months in prison, 12 months of which were suspended.
