NETTLE BAY: During the violent clashes that took place yesterday in Baie Nettlé, a gendarme was shot in the thigh. Fortunately, his life is not in danger.
Several individuals armed with stones, Molotov cocktails and ski masks caused chaos yesterday, mainly in the area of Baie Nettlé where the police were attacked by a group of individuals ready to fight. A gendarme was shot at with live ammunition and was wounded in the thigh. He was immediately surrounded by several other gendarmes present on the scene who were able to intervene quickly to assess “the seriousness of his condition” before being evacuated to the Louis Constant Fleming hospital.
In addition, several vehicles were damaged with large stones by rioters. Faced with this palpable climate of insecurity, some tourists decided to leave the French part and continue their stay in peace in Sint Maarten.
