ANSE MARCEL: The award ceremony held at the Secrets Resort in Anse Marcel gathered many guests, eager to know the results of the first culinary contest organized by the Tourist Office of Saint Martin.
Malaïka Maxwell, perfect mistress of ceremony, did not fail to recount the crazy adventure of this first edition. From November 13 to 30, 79 restaurants offered a starter, a main course, a dessert or a cocktail based on tamarind, the local fruit and the theme ingredient of the festival. Among them, 62 restaurants participated in the competition to be elected “Best Table of Saint Martin 2021/2022”, divided into 4 categories. At the same time, the competition for high school students took place at the Lycée Professionnel Danielle Jeffry, with various activities and cooking workshops for children and adults.
Among the participating students, the promotion was beautiful and entirely female: Talisha Lavoile, Jackicha Hodge, Jovania Vanterpool, Alida Hamlet, Lisha Woodley and Shakyra Richardson. Each of them thought of, created and made a tamarind-based dish, letting their creativity loose between mahi mahi and duck breast. The three aspiring chefs walked away with a PBK food processor, a recipe book from Chef Michel Portos and a set of 12 plates and 6 glasses from Caraïbes Affaires.
First place went to Jackisha Hodge who couldn’t contain her emotion to win this award for her performance. Proud of a certificate attesting to her victory, she will soon go to the Paul Bocuse Institute for an express training. The second place was awarded to Shakyra Richardson who will have access to an advanced training course. The 3rd place went to d by Lisha Woodley. All 6 young talents have a promising future.
