PONTA DELGADA: The President of the Collectivité de Saint-Martin, Daniel Gibbs, is participating from November 17 to 19, 2021 in the Conference of Presidents of the ORs (CPRUP) chaired this year by the Azores. The conference takes place on the island of Sao Miguel in the city of Ponta Delgada.
Present at the Conference are:
President of the Azores: José Manuel BOLIEIRO (host)
President of the Canary Islands: Angel Vitor TORRES (remote)
Regional Secretary of Education and Technological Sciences of Madeira: Huguette BELLO
General Councillor of Mayotte: Ben Issa OUSSENI
President of the Assembly of Guyana: Gabriel SERVILLE
Vice-president of the Regional Council of Guadeloupe, in charge of European affairs: Patrick SELLIN
President of the Executive Council of Martinique: Serge LETCHIMY
President of the Collectivity of Saint-Martin: Daniel GIBBS
During the joint press conference on Thursday, November 18, at the end of the internal session, President Gibbs recalled the following points:
“Our work has been dense and our reunion fruitful. We speak the same language, that of the ultra periphery. Better still, we are looking, together, in the same direction. We all agree on this point: 2022 will be a decisive year!
There will be, as President Letchimy pointed out, an alignment of the planets. It is up to us to seize these opportunities.
President Gibbs insisted on the need to defend the achievements of the ORs: “Obviously, we must promote Article 349 of the Treaty. Not only evoke it and invoke it. We fully have the legal tools to move forward, especially since the Mayotte ruling of 2015. And as President Bello recalled, “This legacy is a project,” said Daniel Gibbs.
For President Gibbs, we must invest in the future: “The new OR strategy will be our roadmap. It is up to us to refine and improve it. The CDS has already done a great job. With relevant, innovative and realistic technical proposals. We will have to go even further, “beyond” studies and simple exchanges of good practices, as President Serville rightly pointed out. All the more reason to be vigilant, offensive and united.
