During the night of November 4 to 5, 2021, thanks to a detection and a follow-up by the airborne maritime surveillance of the Customs and the French Navy, the Ventôse surveillance frigate intercepted a fast boat without nationality marks on the high seas west of the Lesser Antilles.
As the vessel was ordered to stop, the individuals onboard threw objects resembling bundles of drugs into the sea.
Despite a complete search of the vessel, no narcotics were subsequently found on board. No registration documents were found to identify the nationality or activity of the vessel. The boat suffered a major leak and its five occupants, of Venezuelan nationality, were taken on board the French frigate and then handed over to the coast guard of their country at the request of the rescue center competent in the area.
