Report on the controls carried out in the Northern Islands in October on informal fishing

MARIGOT: Within the framework of the regional fisheries control plan (PRCP), the State services, the manager of the National Nature Reserve of St. Martin and the Territorial Environment Agency of the Collectivity of St. Barthélemy are required to organize and coordinate random control operations of vessels and persons engaged in fishing, distribution or sale of fishery products.

During the month of October, the different control operations led to the establishment, on St. Martin, of three reports of seizure of fishing products and equipment used for this purpose and, on St. Barthélemy, to four reports of seizure.

All the fishery products and equipment were confiscated. The objective of these controls is both to preserve the fishing resources and to reduce the unfair competition that this activity generates with regard to the professional fishermen of these two islands.
