The Prefect announces the implementation of several measures for the Sandy Ground and Quartier d’Orléans neighbourhoods

MARIGOT: In the context of the social movement in the Sandy Ground and Quartier d’Orléans neighbourhoods, and in the wake of the numerous contacts he has had, the Prefect reiterates that road blockades and racketeering are unacceptable and that they are detrimental to the image of the island, to its attractiveness, but above all to all of its inhabitants.

Sensitive to the concerns, the Prefect announces the implementation of the following measures which constitute commitments, some of them as early as next week, namely:

1. Installation of a working group in Quartier d’Orléans and Sandy Ground bringing together members of parliament, elected officials, State and local government services, representatives of associations, representatives of neighbourhood councils, youth representatives, socio-professionals and all those who want to get involved in the neighbourhood within the framework of the city policy;

2. Installation of a Gendarmerie Nationale office in Quartier d’Orléans, pending the transfer of the Hope Estate gendarmerie brigade to the same neighbourhood, the Director General of the Gendarmerie Nationale having approved this operation;

3. Installation of a territorial postal agency of the post office near the public services house of Quartier d’Orléans in relation with the community ;

4. Establishment next week of a reception and guidance system for young people, especially towards employment and training: – in Quartier d’Orléans on Thursday from 9am to 1pm at the MSAP – Thelbert Carti stadium parking lot; – in Sandy Ground on Tuesday from 2pm to 4pm at the Maison des Services Publics (MSAP);

5. Establishment of a Local Security and Crime Prevention Council (CLSPD) by the end of 2021 in agreement with the Public Prosecutor;

6. Reinforced financing of prevention and childcare actions. The State is contributing €663,600 to this objective for the implementation of 18 actions, which will focus in particular on primary prevention with the aim of reducing social and health inequalities in early childhood, monitoring the health of young children, taking care of children with disabilities, assisting and supporting families, taking care of young adults, and training childcare professionals. These resources will mainly benefit the districts of Quartier d’Orléans and Sandy Ground;

7. Appointment and arrival on January 1, 2022 of a project director (equivalent to a director of territories and the sea) in charge of the urban renewal of the Sandy Ground and Quartier d’Orléans districts.

A monthly report will be made by the State to the elected representatives of the community and the neighborhood councils on the progress of the projects, the results of the measures taken as well as on the employment situation.
