Return of a gendarmerie brigade to Quartier d’Orléans

MARIGOT: During the meeting with elected officials on Monday afternoon at the prefecture, the prefect of Saint Martin agreed that “the presence of the State and public services should be reinforced in Quartier d’Orléans”, including the gendarmerie.

Serge Gouteyron confided that he had negotiated with the general management of the gendarmerie to obtain the transfer of the Hope Estate brigade to Quartier d’Orléans. In other words, a return to the situation before Irma. No other details have been given for the moment.

Before September 2017, the gendarmerie was indeed present in this sector of the territory but all the premises were destroyed by the passage of Hurricane Irma; the buildings had been visited by Prime Minister Edouard Philippe during his visit to the island in November 2017.

Then, a reflection was initiated on the need or not to rebuild a brigade in Quartier d’Orleans or to install one on Grand Case/Hope Estate. The second option had been chosen and the Hope brigade opened in September 2019 in Hope Estate.
