Ottley pleas with residents to get vaccinated

POND ISLAND: Following the COVID-19-related deaths of two unvaccinated people from the same family within some two weeks of each other, Public Health Minister Omar Ottley has issued an emotional, yet strong, plea to St. Maarten residents to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

“Your keys and phones don’t add up to the reality that we are facing,” Ottley said, referring to misinformation videos and posts about fake side effects of the vaccinations against COVID-19.

“I don’t know what more to say to you St. Maarten. I am trying. We are trying, but we are seeing videos with phones and keys sticking to your hand. The reality is … for the past month everyone that was admitted were non-vaccinated,” Ottley said.

“Everyone has their free mandate and I can’t and I won’t force anyone to vaccinate, but we are living with the proof. We are seeing the proof every day. We are seeing families crying,” Ottley said.

Get vaccinated at the two vaccination locations: Belair Community Centre and CPS at the Vineyard Building or at the two pop-ups: at the Festival Village today, Friday, from 12:00pm to 6:00pm or at Melford Hazel Complex in Sucker Garden on Saturday.
