SAN JUAN: Born August 8, 1908, Emilio Flores Marquez is about to celebrate his 113th birthday and has just entered the Guinness Book of Records.
He’s Puerto Rican, 112 years and 326 days old, and he’s now the oldest man in the world. A little over a month before his birthday (he was born August 8, 1908 in Carolina), Emilio Flores Marquez has just received his certificate as the oldest living man in the world, by the Guinness Book of Records. The second in a family of eleven children, the Puerto Rican has long performed many household chores in the family home before taking care of his brothers and sisters.
As the first boy in the family, he also worked on his father’s sugarcane plantation, taking care of watering and cutting the plants before putting them in carts for transport. “I was the oldest child, so I did everything,” he admitted in the Guinness Book of Records. He then continued to work on the farm to support the family.
