PORT: St. Maarten will get her first port-of-call cruise stop since the coronavirus pandemic hit when Celebrity Cruise’s Celebrity Edge cruise ship makes a transit commercial cruise call on Wednesday, July 7.
Coincidentally, Celebrity Edge was the last commercial transit vessel to visit the country in March 2020 prior to the worldwide halt of cruising. “This week, it will come back full circle. The port is looking forward to frequent/daily transit calls to the destination in the coming weeks and months, according to Port management.
The Royal Caribbean Group brand vessel was the first cruise ship to set sail from U.S. Port Everglades on June 26 after 15-months of a no-sail status.
Cruise sector forecast indicates a strong rebound. The Port looks to stakeholders such as taxis, retailers and tour operators to continue to maintain high service level standards along with COVID-19 public health and safety protocols.
Commenting on this cruising development, Health Minister Omar Ottley said, “At times, it is not easy, but when a balance is found between economic activity and safety, it becomes a special moment, and Wednesday, July 7, 2021, will be a special moment.”
