MARIGOT: The Executive Council of the Collectivity has named the unnamed street that goes from the ferry terminal to the traffic circle of the Methodist Church by circling the market square rue des Sauveteurs en Mer, in tribute to the crew members of the SNSM of Saint Martin. The decision was made on June 23rd, 2017 but the plaque had never been placed.
A ceremony to unveil a first plaque took place last Sunday between the ferry terminal and the market, in the presence of the president of the CollectivitƩ, Daniel Gibbs, the secretary general of the Prefecture, Mikael DorƩ, the president of the SNSM of Saint Martin, RenƩ-Jean Duret and many rescuers from the S.N.S.M. station of Saint Martin.
The SNSM of Saint Martin was created in 2000, it has about fifty active members and about thirty rescue team members who can go to sea in case of alert. After the ceremony, an “Open House” was organized in the premises of the SNSM station of Saint Martin, as part of the national day of the lifeguards at sea.
