A story of penalties and two doubles, this France-Portugal, closing match of the group stage, held all its promises. Each team had its good period and it is with a logical draw that the match ended (2-2). A point that delights especially the Blues who finish at the top of the group.
The verdict of the group phase fell last night, and the Blues will face Switzerland in Bucharest next Monday in the round of 16, while Portugal will face Belgium.
For their part, Germany, who could not do better than a draw against Hungary (2-2), will face England in the round of 16. And to think that the serious things are only going to begin…
Spain force 5!
Before this last group match, Spain was worrying. They will approach the final table with a much higher confidence level after their big win over Slovakia, with Aymeric Laporte’s first goal for the national team yesterday (5-0). La Roja did not win everything though, as they only finished second in their group and will have to face Croatia in the last eight.
A big scare but Sweden finally got out of it. While they were leading 2-0 at the hour against Poland, Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s compatriots, led by a great Emil Forsberg, author of a double, needed a goal from Viktor Claesson in the very last seconds to get rid of Poland, which had come back thanks to the inevitable Robert Lewandowski (3-2). Sweden finished in first place in Group E, while Poland went out in the first round.
Slovakia: 0 – Spain: 5
Sweden: 3 – Poland: 2
Germany: 2 – Hungary: 2
Portugal: 2 – France: 2
See you on Saturday, June 26 for the start of the round of 16!
