Euro 2021: Joy and tears

COPENHAGEN: After Italy’s stunning 3-0 victory over Turkey on Friday at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, the ball stopped rolling the next day in Copenhagen when Denmark’s Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest  and collapse on the field. Soon his teammates rushed to him and the medical staff arrived, quickly performing CPR and using a defibrillator to resuscitate the Inter Milan midfielder.

Eventually, the Danish national team leader was evacuated conscious, before being transported to hospital for further tests. The Danish midfielder was even able to speak with his partners on Facetime to ask them to finish the game, which finally ended in a defeat for Denmark against Finland (0-1). The man of the match trophy  was awarded to Christian Eriksen.
