ITALY: A dozen tourists have been fined by police for stealing seashells, sand and pebbles from beaches in Italy.
The police keep an eye on the beaches of Sardinia, where the white sand is protected.
Those caught in the act face fines of up to $ 35,000 and could even face jail time.
Many of these people got caught at the airport, authorities said.
No less than 200 pounds of sand, shell and pebbles were seized and returned to the beaches where the objects were taken.
Last year, about 40 people suffered the same faith.
