Israel unveils remains of 2,000-year-old basilica

JERUSALEM: The Israel Antiquities Authority has unveiled remains of a 2,000-year-old basilica, dating from the time of King Herod, a biblical ruler who ruled Jerusalem.

The basilica, said to be the largest in Israel, was discovered in the southern city of Ashkelon. Archaeologists said the structure included a main hall surrounded by marble columns up to 13 meters high, as well as an ancient theater.
