For the Tourism Club of Saint Martin, vaccination is a major issue for a destination. “In the very short term, it will be a requirement, whether we agree or not,” said Patrice Seguin, the association’s president at a press conference held last Friday.
Club members gathered the press to raise awareness about the importance of getting vaccinated.
For members of the tourism club, “this is part of the new rules of the game and the penalties will be severe.”
If tourism professionals believe they have been able to cope so far, they believe that if the population does not get vaccinated, the consequences on the economy could be serious. “Until now, we have survived thanks to state aid. But they will be cut off as we get back to normal life. And if we have no customers and no more aid, it will be a disaster,” they want to make clear.
