On Thursday, May 20th, at the request of the Prefect, Serge Gouteyron, the Director of Cabinet Services welcomed the crew of the Dumont d’Urville, which arrived in the anchorage waters of Saint Barthélemy.

The Dumont d’Urville is a multi-purpose support vessel.  Based in Fort-de-France, the Dumont d’Urville is 65 meters long and 14 meters wide. Four vessels of this type are in service with the Navy, in New Caledonia, Reunion, Tahiti and Martinique. It can carry out maritime surveillance, humanitarian assistance, marine pollution response and anti-narcotics missions. Particularly adapted to humanitarian assistance missions, it is designed to carry a large number of passengers in case of evacuation, to transport liquid or material cargo in large quantities and it has a towing capacity.

The Dumont d’Urville is in Saint Barthélemy for three days before continuing its missions in French and international territorial waters.
