Taxi drivers get ‘vaccinated’ bumper stickers

PHILIPSBURG: Almost two dozen taxi drivers received “This driver was vaccinated” bumper stickers for their vehicles from Health Minister Omar Ottley. The stickers were presented at Port St. Maarten to members of the Dutch St. Maarten Taxi Association (DSTA) who presented their vaccination cards showing they received both shots.

The stickers are part of the vaccination campaign, launched by the Ministry of Public Health, themed “The drive to 85%, SXM’s race to normalcy”.

The bumper stickers on the taxis should provide a sense of relief, security and comfort to visitors seeking transportation upon disembarkation, according to the Health Ministry.

Ottley was elated by the number of taxi drivers who are already fully vaccinated and those who are vaccinated encourage others to do the same.

Port St. Maarten sees the vaccine campaign as a step in the right direction and consideration to the safety of all involved.

The recent updated guidelines from CDC regarding the Conditional Sail Order should also position the destination for transit calls. “We look forward to the economic rebound from multiple ship visits per week as the industry takes a staggered ramp up approach to deploying vessels to the region,” the Port said.
