SCDF kicks off carnival preparations

FESTIVAL VILLAGE: St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation has begun its annual preparation for the next carnival season.

Mid-May is typically the time when SCDF starts its administrative processes. This year, SCDF launched this phase with the theme “Fete Preparation Schedule” via social media.

On the fete preparation schedule are the following:

June 1 – General Registration Opens

July 1 – Expression of Interest to host Carnival Shows Deadline

August 1 – Promoter Commitment Deadline

September 1 – Booth Holder Re-Commitment Deadline

October 1 – General Registration Closes

The only aspect of carnival that registration will not be opened for is new booths. All booths have already been allotted for the next carnival.

One of the processes SCDF says it will complete this year is the audit commissioned by government in 2019 before being interrupted by the pandemic. SCDF President Alston Lourens said despite the unfounded rumors and allegations, the foundation has already publicly committed to having the audit done.

SCDF is also embarking on new initiatives in marketing and online services to be offered to carnival enthusiasts, visitors and residents.
