Country gets new ambulances, fire trucks

POND ISLAND: The country will receive four ambulances, three fire trucks, one thirty-seater bus and 10 command vehicles for its Ambulance and Fire Departments as well as 34 SUVs, 17 pickup trucks, two crane trucks, and three minibuses (two regular and one protocol) for other departments.

The vehicles will replace those damaged by Hurricane Irma in 2017.

The first batch of vehicles has already arrived and has been delivered to the Department of Facilities Management. The remainder will be delivered in the coming months.

The vehicles were purchased under the Emergency Recovery Program 1 of the St. Maarten Trust Fund. The vehicles were procured by the National Recovery Program Bureau (NRPB). Government’s budget has not been affected by the purchases as the vehicles were financed via the Trust Fund.

Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs said, “These vehicles will aid us in being more efficient as a government apparatus. These vehicles could not be timelier with the upcoming hurricane season.”
