Baie-Orientale /Orient Bay, is a gorgeous stretch of white sands and azure waters on the east coast of the French St. Martin. There is a vibrant community village filled with restaurants and specialty boutique stores.
This coastal community is coming back to life with many of the residential buildings in the throes of being rebuiltafter being severely damaged by hurricane Irma.
Beach restaurants, ever popular, still line the length of the beach; many have changed hands although keeping the same name; some are not located quite where one remembers. However, others are and have been revamped with new exciting menus – go back and visit them again.
The beach, at the moment, is beset with sargassum grass but they are swept clean in the mornings where restaurants are now opening up to welcome visitors. Brightly coloured beach chairs and umbrellas line the area in front of each restaurant.
The beach at the south end is frequented by naturists, the resort there has not yet been rebuilt but, one can get umbrellas, beach chairs, drinks and snacks. An active group of owners have been working towards rebuilding and reopening the resort – plans and permits are still being sort for this.
