Police officers gain double stripes

PHILIPSBURG: After much studying and training, a squad of police officers stood proudly on May 7 in front of the Philipsburg Police Station as their family members swapped out their trainee shoulder badges for their double police officer stripes.

Police Chief Carl John asked Justice Minister Anna Richardson to allow family members, including the children of some officers to have the honour of pinning the stripes. This led to much emotion as the ceremony moved on in the presence of Governor Eugene Holiday, Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs, Richardson, Chief Prosecutor Mirjam Mol and other officials.

This Class of 2015 had to wait a long time to collect their certificates and gain their stripes due to many hurdles, but meeting and surpassing those hurdles added to the day’s celebrations.

The newly minted police officers were trained by the Nederlands Politie Academy.

Chief John said the Police Force continues to train its personnel to the highest level possible to give the foundation on which to build a career offering the highest level of professional police service.
