‘Drive to 85%, SXM race to normalcy’ campaign launched

POND ISLAND: A country-wide vaccination awareness campaign, themed “The Drive to 85%, SXM race to

normalcy”, was launched on Wednesday by the Government of St. Maarten.

The campaign encourages the community to get vaccinated as 85 percent at the least is needed to achieve herd immunity against the COVID-19 virus.

Many people are enquiring about possible economic boosters such as music festivals and carnival; such events can only be considered if the country achieves an 85 per cent vaccination rate, said Public Health Minister Omar Ottley. “This is our race to normalcy, join me.”

Registration for the vaccine and the jab itself are free. The vaccination centers at Belair Community Center and Collective Preventive Service in the Vineyard Building are open to walk-ins. A photo identification is needed. Undocumented people can use their passport to get the vaccine as long as it shows they have been here for four months or more.
