New tourism minister for St. Maarten soon

POND ISLAND: St. Maarten will soon have a new tourism, economic affairs, transportation and telecommunications (TEATT) minister. This comes after the resignation of current TEATT Minister Ludmilla de Weever on Friday. De Weever has been a minister for just over a year.

De Weever plans to stay in government, but in the legislative branch. She is to take up a seat in the Parliament. One of the 15 seats in Parliament is vacant since last week when Omar Ottley, who is also from the United People’s (UP) party, resigned from Parliament to become Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor VSA.

It is possible for De Weever to go to Parliament because she is the next highest vote-getter on her party’s 2020 election slate.

It is not yet known who will take up the post of TEATT minister. This ministry is vital in this challenging pandemic time when tourism is still in a flux and the economy is in need of dire revitalization.
