The Ministry of Overseas France announces its financial support for 3 local projects

As part of the Exceptional Investment Fund (FEI), the Ministry of Overseas France is providing financial support for local structuring projects, led by the communities of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy (2 in Saint-Martin and 1 in Saint-Barthélemy).

In these two islands, the Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, wished to provide the Government’s support to essential projects in terms of protecting populations from climate risks and managing water and sanitation networks. These grants are a continuation of the State’s investments made to rebuild resilient, safer infrastructure after Hurricane Irma in 2017.

All projects supported by the Ministry of Overseas France in Saint-Martin (€3,600,000):

– Rehabilitation of a media library into a hurricane shelter

The Concordia media library, heavily damaged by Hurricane Irma, is currently unable to accommodate the public. The project aims at fitting out the premises to allow its reopening and its use as a survival shelter for 600 residents who will find there sanitary facilities and a medical section.

EIF grant of €3,000,000 (52.63% of the total project cost)

– Optimization of the Quartier d’Orléans wastewater collection basin to improve the hydraulic functioning of the sewerage system in order to improve the living conditions of the 300 residents living in the waste water discharge areas and limit their exposure to the pollution emanating from it.

EIF grant of €600,000 (i.e. 38% of the total project cost)

Project supported by the Ministry of Overseas France in Saint-Barthélemy (€500,000):

– Extension and replacement of the island’s drinking water and wastewater network to bring a more efficient and safer system to residents and tourists.

EIF grant of €500,000 (i.e. 48% of the total project cost)
