Port prepares for homeporting of ‘Celebrity Millennium’

PORT ST. MAARTEN – Port St. Maarten is amidst preparations for homeporting of Celebrity cruise line’s Celebrity Millennium that is to set sail from Dr. A.C. Wathey Cruise and Cargo Facility on June 5. Royal Caribbean Group RCG executives recently toured the port where cruisers will be prior to boarding and disembarking the ship.

The 2,200-guest Celebrity Millennium will offer seven-night itineraries departing from Sint Maarten through August. The ship, expected to sail with 50 per cent capacity, will sail with vaccinated crew and will be available to vaccinated adult and children under age 18 with a negative PCR test result within 72 hours of embarkation.

This would be the largest homeporting vessel to date to carry out operations at the Port. This is also the first time homeporting will be carried out during the hurricane season.

Homeporting generates more airlifts in and out of the destination via the Princess Juliana International Airport, brings additional business for (cruise) service providers, and creates the potential for pre- and post-cruise extension visits at hotels.
