HARBOUR VIEW: United People’s (UP) party Member of Parliament Omar Ottley is now the country’s Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labour. He was sworn in by Governor Eugene Holiday on Tuesday afternoon. Ottley replaces Richard Panneflek who has held the post for the past year.
The governor told Ottley at the ceremony that he has accepted to serve as minister in a challenging social economic and financial time and at a time when there is much to do with scarce resources.
“Your decisions on the use of the scarce means to meet the needs of our people will have lasting influences on the lives of the people of St. Maarten,” said the governor.
Ottley plans to focus on labor protection, attaining herd immunity against the pandemic and to complete the construction of the St. Maarten General Hospital.
